With all of the disturbing headline news lately surrounding several different Christian leaders, we have to stop and question what we are hooked on. Are you hooked on a person or are you hooked on the message of God? If you are following after a person instead of the Lord, you stand a huge chance of being disappointed and possibly led down the wrong path. It is so important to discern the message coming from the speaker and guard your heart. A truly anointed preacher will direct those who listen to their message to live a godly life with integrity, serving the Lord with all of their might.
Jeremiah 9:23-24 "Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, Let not the mighty man glory in his might, nor let the rich man glory in his riches; But let him who glories glory in this, that he understands and knows Me, That I am the Lord, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight'."
Jeremiah 29:13 says, "...you will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart." This is a promise from God.
Searching for God is more than a short, quickly delivered prayer. To really search after Him requires reading the precious Word of God, meditating and spending time in His Holy presence. Jesus told His followers, "If you abide in My Word, then you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free"- John 8:31-32. The word abide means to continue in, to tarry, to dwell, to remain. It does not mean reading the Scripture for information only, but for transformation of our hearts and minds. When we study God's Word and listen to His voice, we will come to know Him on a much more intimate level than we can ever imagine.
As brothers and sisters in Christ, it is our responsibility to not judge, but to love and encourage one another in good times as well as bad times. When we uphold others in prayer, our own Spirit grows in strength. Let's pray for those in leadership and authority over us. Let's get hooked on the Message, not the messenger!
